The main train line between London Waterloo and Weymouth runs through the New Forest. Most trains stop at Brockenhurst. Other stations within the National Park are Ashurst, Beaulieu Road, and Sway.
Change at Brockenhurst for the branch line to Lymington Town and Lymington Pier (for the ferry to Yarmouth, Isle of Wight).
The main bus route through the Forest is the Bluestar No 6, which runs from Southampton to Lymington via Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst.
Additionally, the Waterside, on the eastern edge of the New Forest, is served by two bus routes – Southampton to Calshot and Southampton to Langley. There are also services from Salisbury to Bournemouth via Ringwood, Salisbury to Bournemouth via Fordingbridge and Ringwood.
During the summer months, the New Forest Tour open top buses operate on three circular routes.
The Red route operates in a clockwise manner, mostly North of the A31.
The Blue route covers the South West of the Forest in an anticlockwise direction.
The Green Route goes anti-clockwise round the South East of the Forest. The buses welcome well behaved dogs, at the discretion of the driver. One ticket covers all three routes, so it is not difficult to get around the Forest by bus.
If you would like to include a boat trip in your journey around the New Forest, the Hythe Ferry operates between Town Quay in Southampton and Hythe. The New Forest Tour Green Route connects with certain sailings of the Hythe Ferry.
There is even a ride on the world’s oldest pier train thrown in, or you could walk to the ferry if you prefer.
