Why visit Lyndhurst?

Lyndhurst is often known as the capital of the New Forest.

As you enter the village from the South, you see Queens House on your right, which is currently the New Forest headquarters of Forestry England.  It is also home to the Verderers Court.

Next on your right is St Michael & All Angels church where Alice Liddell, the inspiration behind Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is buried.

Lyndhurst is where the main North-South and East-West roads through the Forest meet.  To cope with the volume of traffic, there is a one-way system round the village of Lyndhurst, but you should still expect queues, particularly at weekends in the Summer.

Village shops tend to cater for tourist needs. The High Street boasts a wide variety of pubs, restaurants and cafes.  Whether you are looking for ice creams, afternoon tea or coffee, Fish and Chips, Thai, Indian, Italian or simply good pub grub you will find what you want in Lyndhurst.

If you are interested in fast cars, toward the other end of the village, there is a Ferrari and Maserati dealership to feast your eyes on.

If you are planning to stay in the area, there is a wide variety of accommodation available in Lyndhurst from B&Bs, a number of three- and four-star hotels and guest houses to a five-star hotel – the choice is yours. Check out the options on the internet.

There is a large busy pay and display car park in the centre of the village. Tourist coaches have their own part of the car park.  There is also a public toilet block in the car park.  Both short and long stay options are available, make sure you park in the appropriate section.
