Dave undertakes a 4 mile circular route to the West of the Bolderwood Arboretum Ornamental Drive – a small road that runs North / South from Bolderwood to the A35 (Lyndhurst to Christchurch road).
After discovering a super “den” at the start – the Barrow Moor Forestry Commission car park (Grid Ref SU253067) – I head West along a cycle track, deep in to the Knightwood Inclosure. I take a minor detour to explore The Eagle Oak – one of the “celebrity” trees of The New Forest. After spotting a lovely Roe Buck, I continue in to the Anderwood Inclosure and discover two huge ant nests before turning North up Hart Hill towards Smokey Hole.
I eventually turn East, back to the Ornamental Drive before exploring the earthworks / remains of what was once the largest Medieval Royal Hunting Lodges on the Forest.
Although I finish back at the car park, the video ends with a reading of the poem “Leisure” (by William Henry Davies – 1911) by The Eagle Oak.
